If I was to give you an all-expenses paid trip to the Middle East (I get to choose the country)
It would include flights, transfers, 5 star hotel, half board (breakfast and dinner)
There would be tours around the country (of my choice) and you would be expected to follow the country's laws

Would you do it?

I would guarantee your safety (up to you whether you want to put sunscreen on or not)

(It would be nice if you gave a reason why "yes" or "no")

No! With all the activity going on over there, there is no way you could actually guarentee my safety or yours for that matter.flowerforyou

Hmmmmm

For how long? Long enough to learn some of the language? Learn some about the culture?

5 Star can do without...too impersonal. Less contact with the locals. Can't learn a thing that way.

Tours the usual tourist crap?

Do I get info on local laws before I get there to avoid problems?

Yes. You would get a couple of hours of information about the country, its customs and its local traditions.

You honestly think I would use the tourist traps? lol Im offended! tongue

There would be a wedding to attend, the equivalent of a barbecue and plenty of the locals speak excellent English so you could ask their opinion of the world at large.

... and I reckon two weeks is long enough to do the things I have in mind.

So far 6 people have answered
5 Americans say no
1 Canadian asks questions and says maybe.

Interesting.

You wouldnt need them
They wouldnt get into the country with all the hardware and the area is safe without them

No, you wouldnt have to wear burqa.
As long as you are dressed decently in certain places, then thats cool.

It depends on your opinions on human rights, if you mean beating women in the street for not wearing sleeves, then that country is not on the itinerary.

.. and no, I am not marrying you off to a wizened old Bedouin who owns half of the Negev desert, in exchange for 5000 racing camels!
Although .... I need to speak to Michael about this .. it might have some mileage!
But anyway.

You would have two weeks to fully immerse yourself in the culture.
You would meet some of the most agile minds in the Arab world.
You would be able to converse in English with them as they are all very intelligent ...

The bathroom facilities ... hmmm ... yes .. well, the rule is that you put the pressie in the pan and the wrapper in the bin.
(no elaboration necessary, I hope)

But apart from that?

Thats 2 Canadian yesses and one American yes with the proviso he can bring Rambo.

.. and that is where you are wrong and unfortunately ignorant of the Middle East.

I can guarantee your safety as much as you cold guarantee mine in the US.

Yes, I would go. So much to see and learn - so much history to absorb!!! It would be a dream, really, to be able to immerse myself in that culture for a couple of weeks.
