I'm interested in taking my boys riding. Any advice on what to take along? I'm looking at renting atv's. All advice certainly appreciated.

obviously all safety gear, and maybe some lessons ahead of time. i've seen bad things happen on those things.

knee and elbow pads at least, look up online for safety gear. maybe the rental place will have what you need.

Okay.... I didn't think I needed that kind of gear. I bought my sons some of that stuff for skate boarding. I'm thinking a slow easy ride... now you got me thinking

atv's are fun but can be dangerous
I know an old high school friend who was riding one in the sand hills just a couple months ago. He crashed it and jammed his face into the handle bars. He lost both eyes and is blind now
My best friend gave his son one. He immediately crashed it and broke his arm. He is 6 and heals fast
so be careful with em

Yup I'd look real cute with a wrench and no clue how to use it...LOL. I think the cell phone would do me more good... unless my boys have a clue with what is wrong.

quiet... looks like I will need to show this to my boys who have already told me they don't want a guided tour where they have to play follow the leader behind one person. I have two teens one 16 and one 18 who are pretty responsible. I think it's their mom who will need to slow down. I really think it's important for me to spend quality time with the guys and they just aren't into fishing.

Had to perv your profile to see what State you're in... Some States have requirements for those under 18 ie: Helments, safety goggles, parental supervision for under 16 and training in order to operate an ATV...
Not allowed on Public roads here... although they do it anyway. We have 6-10 killed on them each year. Very dangerous on hilly terrain, or if turns made too fast, NO "Wheelies", etc....
People who do "Tricks" on them have trained for years.
Barbed wire fences are a danger too.
(My brother works on ATV's and I ride some... some manufacturers are adding safety features all the time)
NOT trying to scare you they are fun to ride, but common sense has to be used on them. Just letting you know some of the dangers..

Whoo hoo I've been perved today!
I noticed there is a place here in PA that does take you on a guided tour for an hour and a half. It's $75 for drivers and $25 passenger. My boys don't like the idea of a guided ride. I certainly will take all the advice into making my final decision. I was thinking of going once alone, but I don't know... now you all have me thinking.

Perhaps a medic might be a good thing to have on hand! (grabs bandaids, crutches, medicine cabinet, towels...)
Ive always had a 4 wheeler so Ive had a lot of experience riding them. Just dont let them get out there acting crazy on it, speeding and doing tight turns and everything will be okay.

You should never go alone! A friend of mine when hunting alone on his, hit a hidden branch, turn the ATV over on himself. He laid in the woods bleeding for more than 15 hours before anyone actually found him.
There are plenty of place to go riding, I think Skirmish USA has open riding there and that isn't too far from you!

Take a medical kit with you. We use to ride all the time too and the one time we were just going slow but down a road that was a gravel road. My son's back brakes went out we were barely moving he hit the brakes went off the road into a barb wire fence lucky the 4 wheeler popped up and put him on his butt. How was that lucky if not most likely his face would have been in the barb wire. He ended up cutting his thumb pretty bad enough that we went to the ER I had to take off my tank top to wrap his hand good thing I had 2 of them on at the time. So yes medical kit and bug spray, make sure you spray ahead of times. At the time Beau was around 11 and had been riding several times prior to this.
